10:00pm: Live From Montreal: David
Ryshpan & TRIO BRUXO feat. Brownman
Three
of Montreal’s rising young jazz musicians have come together in a new project.
In the vein of the
great
Brazilian jazz piano trios of the 1960s and 1970s, Trio Bruxo (“wizard
trio”) takes songs from the
rich
library of música populeira brasileira (MPB) and filters them through
their reverent, yet improvisatory,
lens.
Their repertoire includes lesser-known sambas and bossa novas by masters
Tom Jobim and Chico
Buarque,
the crystalline pop of Djavan and Ivan Lins, the exploratory instrumental
music of Hermeto
Pascoal,
and even the northeastern folk baião of Luiz Gonzaga. Trio Bruxo
will be joined tonight by
the
Trinidadian born multi-award winning BROWNMAN ALI, heralded as "Canada's
preeminent jazz
trumpeter"
by NYC's Village Voice.

feat. Kevin Breit
Successfully
bridging the disparate genres of folk and jazz, Folkalarm has
performed
at the Toronto, PEI and Rochester Jazz festivals as well as many
folk
festivals across the country and numerous concerts and clubs in and
around
Ontario. Formed 10 years ago, the band Jorn Anderson, Kevin
and
Russ Boswell has recorded five CDs on Poverty Playlist and enjoys a
very
solid following. Their music is improvisational, fun, often spontaneous
and
always grooves hard. Audiences have always found themselves engaged
and
engrossed in Folkalarm's melodic instrumental interplay.

08:00pm: Live From Paris: DaD
Trio
Adrien
Daoud (saxophone) and Thibaut Brandalise (drums) meet in Paris, early
2008.
Realizing they had a lot of common musical references, they decide to
start
a new project which will soon become DAD. Not long after Maxime Daoud
(bass)
joins the adventure, followed by Gabe "Crowd" Gorman (MC). The four
lads
come up with an innovative and alternative jazz, equally influenced by
rock
or hip hop. DAD offers an original repertoire, a blend of various musical
heritage
mixing ambitious themes, insane impros and creative grooves.
Dynamic,
unconventional with a tad of poetic trance, DAD is definitely a
must
hear.
